The Glory to Come

Today’s Verse:
Romans 8:18
ESV

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

This week, we will reflect upon some of the most popular Bible verses from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans. Today, we read a Bible verse about suffering and joy from Chapter 8, verse 18.

In this broken world, suffering is no stranger to us. Whether it’s physical pain, emotional heartache, or the weight of life’s uncertainties, we all bear crosses. The Apostle Paul, writing to the Romans, doesn’t shy away from this reality. He acknowledges the "sufferings of this present time" but points us to a hope that transforms our perspective: the glory that God has promised.

As Christians, we understand that this hope is not something we earn or achieve. It’s a gift, secured by Christ’s death and resurrection. Paul’s words remind us that no matter how heavy our burdens, they pale in comparison to the eternal weight of glory prepared for us. This glory isn’t a distant dream—it’s a certainty, grounded in God’s unshakeable promise. Through faith, we cling to the cross, where Jesus bore our ultimate suffering, ensuring that nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:39).

Martin Luther once wrote, “The cross is our theology.” In our suffering, we are united with Christ, who suffered for us. Yet, because He rose, we know that our present trials are temporary. The glory to come—when we will see God face-to-face, free from sin and pain—is so magnificent that it overshadows every hardship. This perspective doesn’t diminish our struggles but anchors us in the sure hope of resurrection.

.Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Gracious Father, I thank You for Your Son, Jesus, who endured the cross to secure my hope. In suffering, remind me of the glory that awaits through Your grace. Strengthen my faith to trust Your promises, and let Your Spirit guide me to live in the light of Your eternal love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
